Wallpaper Calculator

The wallpaper calculator below should be used as a guide only. It's always a good idea to consult your decorator before purchasing or double check your calculation using the DIY method below.

Wallpaper Calculation Guide

You will need:

  • Tape Measure
  • Pen/Pencil and Paper
  • Calculator

All of our wallpaper rolls are 68.6cm wide x 10.5 metres long (1,050cm).
You will find the pattern repeat allowance of each design on on the relevant product page of our website.

1. Measure the wall
Carefully measure the wall width (from left to right) in centimetres.
Carefully measure the wall height (from top to bottom) in centimetres.
Eg:
475cm (width) x 240cm (height)

2. Calculate number of wallpaper drops required
A drop is one length/strip of wallpaper that 'drops' from the top of your wall to the bottom. To calculate how many 'drops' you need, divide your wall width in centimetres by your wallpaper roll width (68.6cm). This will tell you how many drops you need
Eg:
Wall A - 475cm (wall width) /  68.6cm (roll width) = 6.92 (round up to a whole number) = 7 drops

3. Calculate the total drop height
Multiply the number of drops by the wall height.
Eg:
Wall A - 7 drops x 240cm height = 1680cm.

4. Calculate the total pattern repeat allowance
A pattern repeat is the distance measured vertically before a design repeats itself. You will need to allow extra for the pattern repeat. The pattern repeat measurement can be found on the relevant product page of the website.
Add one pattern repeat per drop of wallpaper excluding the first drop.
Eg:
Wall A - 7 drops per wall minus the 1st drop = 6 drops to apply pattern repeat allowance to.
For a pattern repeat of 50cm multiply 50cm x 6 drops = 300cm.

5. Calculate the total wallpaper length per wall
Add the totals from Step 3 and Step 4 together.
Eg:
Wall A - 1680cm (step 3) + 300cm (step 4)1980 cm

6. Calculate the total wallpaper length required for all walls
Repeat steps 1-5 for each wall and add the totals for each wall together.
Eg:
1980cm (wall A) + 1930cm (wall B)  + 1990 (wall c) =  5900cm

7. Calculate total number of rolls required
Divide the total wallpaper length (step 6) by 1050 cm (10.5 metres) and round up to the next whole number (part rolls are not available).
Eg:
5900 / 1050cm (10.5 metres) = 5.62 rounded up to 6 rolls
